First Fespa Fabric Event Gathers Global Community of Garment Specialists

The first dedicated FESPA Fabric event took place in Munich, Germany, last week within the FESPA 2010 exhibition (22-26 June 2010) , putting the spotlight on the latest techniques and trends in screen and digital garment printing and decoration.

Inclusion of Sericulture and Allied Activities in RKVY

Government has decided to include sericulture and allied activities in Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) to be eligible for funding under RKVY. It will cover sericulture up to the stage of cocoon production along with extension system for cocoon production and silk yarn production in agri-enterprise up to the marketing.

Brazil Agree on Framework Regarding WTO Cotton Dispute

Brazil’s Ministers reached a decision in support of a Framework regarding the Cotton dispute, which would avert the imposition of countermeasures of more than $800 million this year. This includes more than $560 million in countermeasures against U.S. exports which were scheduled to go into effect on Monday, June 21, 2010, as well as possible countermeasures on intellectual property rights that could have taken effect later. Scant Supply for the Near Term

Cotton available for the short term was still of great interest in the past week. However, there existed also brisk demand for later dates. Indeed, the market was almost empty. Prices and quotations had further gone up, if obtainable at all. Thus, not many new contracts could be closed. For merchants, the replacement in the countries of origin became hardly possible on the prevailing basis.
